    So some history:
I got all of the valve clearances to spec then rebuilt the carbs 6 months ago, wet set floats, bench synced, blocked yics and synced carbs on bike, and colortuned to a nice blue at about 2000rpm. I did the syncing several times until I became real familiar with the process. It ran great for 1-2 months til I washed out on a corner and messed up some electrical business and the ignition switch among some things.

I finally got all the parts, new tires, upgraded the fuse box, reassembled it. I ran through the bench sync, bike sync using a manometer, colortune process twice and it still has slow acceleration and low torque. I know these bikes run at high RPM, but I have to hold it in the 5-6,000 RPM range for almost a minute to get from 30-40mph in 2nd and 3rd gear. 2nd does better of course. I can get it up to 60mph but have not tried anything higher at the moment.

Is this typical? Am I losing power somewhere? I've tried spraying some WD40 around a few places to check for air leaks but have found none.

Maybe my fuel air mixture is still off? It doesn't want to idle, so I keep a little on the throttle when stopped.

    Any suggestions my friends?

    -Porter

    I forgot to add:

New spark plugs, new battery, new K&N air filter.

I got it to idle nicely at 1,400-1,500RPM since I first posted.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that when using a K&N filter you might need to re-jet the carbs. When you get old, you tend to suffer from CRS (Can't Remember Squat).

No this is not typical, not even close, my 650 will nail 130km/hr from a dead stop before I switch to 4th. ( and my setup is not close to perfectly tuned, but it is mostly stock)

Just a couple quick things I can think of, but I'm no wizard:

    - dont rejet, it will be easier to go back to stock air filter
    - have you had your carbs apart since the crash?

The only thing to note is that two of the carbs were slow to "clunk". I will take some 1000 wet grit to them this weekend. Would that cause slow acceleration?

The slides control the main needle. If they are not moving freely then the needle will not move, or not move quickly enough in order to adjust the fuel to meet demand.

one way to check the clutch is to get on it do like 20 mph pull the clutch in then rev the engine up to 6000 rpms or atleast above what you where at then let out on the clutch if it revs and takes a second to snap back to your starting rpm its probably slipping. theres probably an easyer way to do it though just throughing one out there

Maybe some gas got in and changed the shearing point of the oil. I may just change it anyway.

Pretty easy to eliminate the filter swop k&n for standard and try?
Like others I would suspectcarbs first, when you dropped the bike some loose crape could have circulated through the fuel system.
Don't take much to clog them tiny jets?

Or maybe the brakes are dragging after the tire change?

Ok, the clutch was definitely slipping but it was because my new clutch cable was way too tight.

Runs like a brand new machine now!

    Thanks

knob at lever and nut at clutch bracket on motor adjust so it has about 2 or 3 mm free play at clutch lever
