    Hey all,
Last couple days before I take off on a quick trip to the NC mountains for a long weekend on the XJ650 Maxim! Anybody have some advice/tips/suggestions?

    Quick info:
Tent camping, mostly cooking/eating at campsites, about 12 other riders in the group, maintenance seems to be complete, valves adjusted last weekend and running great, extra cables/plugs/bulbs/oil and toolkit packed.

Does anyone have any suggestions for packing gear, additional supplies, expert tips?

    Thanks!

Get a camelback or similar so you can take in water while you ride. Dehydration sneaks up on you, then it hits hard.
Keep the length of your trip in mind. If you will be near a road you will also be near food. Don't pack more consumables than you will use between trips for gas. Bring a tarp to use as a ground cover, or extra shelter. Bring comfortable shoes. Bring a good book. Bring scotch.

Good tips k-moe, definitely need to check into getting a camelback. As for the scotch, will a nice irish whiskey suffice? I always seem to pack too much, so this time my plan is to pile up everything I "think" is needed and then leave half of it behind. We will see how that plan goes

M&M's or gum while your riding. Ear plugs,
wet rag for bugs on your shield, this always gets used by everyone. Spray detailer for while your hitting that whisky. Camera/cell phone, plastic bags.
    credit card.

Almost forgot the gum. Wonder if a half-saturated rag in glass cleaner kept in a ziplok bag would be a good idea for visor cleaning. Always seems the bug aim for your helmet

I keep a microfiber cloth that has been dampened with soapy water in a ziplock bag. Glass cleaner is not friendly to visors over the long-term. You can add a little Hydrogen Peroxide to the mix to help with bug removal.

a cut, scrape, a little road rash, a burn, i could take a little bug juice and water, but glass cleaner i don't know. how about some rubbing alcohol. Or live it up with two rags :)

some good advice once again gentlemen! soapy water and a touch of hydro peroxide it is. I didn't mention that a small first aid kit is 99% of the time coming with me, because glass cleaner on a cut isn't my ideal of fun either

When ever I take a trip, the one thing I always run out of is time. Never seem to have enough of that.
