    hey boys and girls i just picked up my first bike which is a 1982 xj 550 runs ok but the carbs need to be syncd and she needs brakes im going to be doing a cafe/brat build but since i wrecked my truck its now my daily driver havent done much played around with flipping the bars but didnt like it that much so just going to clean it up and start ordering stuff

    Welcome. You're in the right place. Be sure to check out the Information Overload Hour post from Chacal. Incedentally, he's also the man to see about parts. Highly recommended. He's the next best thing to taking the bike back in time and to the dealer, minus crazy dealer mark-ups and potential for grandfather-paradoxes.

    Also, you should put your bike year/model in your signature. That way when you ask questions in future posts, people won't have to ask you over and over which model you have.

    You'll hear this a lot - take care of the maintenance first - get it running well before you start modifying anything and replace the rear brake shoes before you do anything else, especially before going on a highway - they can kill you.

    yeah right now maintenance is key its my daily driver for now going to wait and ride for the summer then this winter tear it down

    At the very least chsck the rear brake shoes for delamination. Rear wheel lockups are not fun.

    brakes are all good got new shoes anyway, well we have an off season
