So i thought i would share a recent build i have going. I purchased this XJ600 for $600 Au as a runner. It needed work on pretty much everything but slowly its coming together and nearing completion and ready to make way for the next build.
    It began with this................... FullSizeRender.jpg
To this as it was slowly dissembled

Stripped down........The engine before and after rebuilding... FullSizeRender(2).jpg

The frame cut and a hoop added to the rear along with some cowl fabrication. All the unnecessary tabs removed and the frame sanded . FullSizeRender(7).jpg
Jump forward......painted frame and a Triumph guard custom fitted to the swing arm so it moves with the wheel and has a nice low profile.
    FullSizeRender(9).jpg
    The new battery box...

A side view of the guard mounting.

    The re-shaped foot pegs.

Nicely done. There are a few things though. That wingnut holding the tank on; is it some sort of statement? It looks out of place. The rear mudguard looks like it will hit the frame loop under full compression. Bump stops on the shocks might be needed to prevent that.

Ah the wing nut........ Statement no. It was handy at the time and yep it does stick out. These Benelli tanks do come with a mounting hole through them. The wing nut was going to be brass and the search continues. Either that or a dome nut may be the latter
The shocker has been on my mind for some time. It doesn't bottom out but as you can imagine its not working to its full potential. Semi rigid. Seated i get around 25% travel.
Im constantly looking around for a replacement with say 13" centers to give it a lift. Yep i got a good grasp on trail and rake and the effects.

I think it would look good to have a clamping knob machined up out of brass. Benelli tanks are beautiful, and I do like how they chose to mount them with exposed hardware.

The filler cap looks like racing style, off of an old Shelby or something... Is that stock for the Benelli tank? It looks super cool!
Funny point: I was watching a show where they were fixing up an original Shelby for a track day, and it seems that "Racing style" filler caps are not appropriate for racing. It seems they had a nasty habit of popping open and spilling fuel all over. Obviously, the guy didn't want to modify a 60s Cobra, so they had to safety wire it shut. So much for speedy fill ups!

    Hey Matti,
yep that cap was purchased separately. Its a Monza cap and they get used on a lot of bike as well as Jags, Austins and American classics. Its got a pretty positive snapping lock
and springs up when you push the latch.
Guess you'd want a decent sized tank if it was getting safety wired.

Totally agree with you k-moe. It needs something worthy of the tank design.....

So ive started on the tank.
Ive got a kit to put through it to clean and reline the internals. Two new petcocks in the mail that will take a couple of weeks so in the meantime
hand sanding a satin finish to then add a GT stripe to match the tail followed by clear. An the wing nut has been replaced with a brass knurled nut. It just needs some filing to seat flush.
