Does anyone have any info on a step by step for wiring both rear and front signals?
I'm going to dive into it but it would be greatly appreciated if I could get more information on this, avoid having to do it more than once lol.
    Thanks all,
    -EM

wot, you mean you intend to replace the wiring and rewire the complete signal circuits ?
or do you mean you just need to know how to replug them back up.?

Plug them back up. I'm not sure how to go about it, or what previous owner has done.
Also one of the mounting brackets for one of the rear signals is bent. Not sure how to bend it back as it is an extremely solid piece.
    Thanks!

Even if someone could post or link me a picture(s) of their wiring all the way from the signal itself to the fuse panel.
    I'm in limbo right now.
    Thank you.

The easy way to find something is a Google search with the filter site:xjbikes.com

    Your requested information

It doesn't hurt to just poke around and read the old threads. Tons of good stuff that hardly ever sees the light of day anymore.

Yeah I've been trying to poke around. Lots to sift through but I'm finding it very educational.
It's nice to see other people's issues or mistakes so I can hopefully avoid them for the most part.
Thanks for posting the diagram, I have the one from the manual as well I'm just pretty new to motorcycles and I'm not sure if there are wires missing and whatnot.
    Thanks again,

That helps a lot. I saw it before but I was away from home and it wouldn't let me open the link on my phone. Now the fun of tracing the wires to see what the previous owner has done.
I'll try and take some pictures to show what I'm up against.
    Thanks guys.

So there's progress. The rear signals won't be a problem to install except for that one bracket that's bent. Gonna take it into work and see what can be done. We have a mat tech that can do wonders.
The front signal lights will be harder as I don't see where the wiring is
There is this one pair of wires near the signal switch that have been cut and taped. Took off the tape and they were just wrapped together.
    See pic:

Do the wires I'm looking for go into the headlight or anything? I'm really having a hard time tracing them when they get past the flasher relay and cancel unit

    Oh joy lol.
It seems like there are quite a few wires heading into the back of the headlight. Is that where I'll find the other wires I'm looking for?

lets start with the left directional.
at the rear of bike directionals should have a ground wire it should be black, same with the front directionals. test with meter to see if they are connected to ground. continuity test or ohms test.

from the rear lights black connect to a common connector under the seat.

then there should be a DARK brown at the rear directional it runs to the front directional and the directional control at handle bars. you should have continuity from front to back connectors on the colored wires..

unplug the cancel unit it is long and square ended

there is a wire from your fuse lt brown that brings power to the directional RELAY. box should be labeled.
test for voltage both sides of fuse

    edit for color
edit for power to relay not switch

    the flasher has 3 wires
    brown/yellow goes to directional switch
yellow/green goes to canceler ignore for now
brown goes back to fuse box this is power. see edit above for change

that is your basic circuit to run wires left side.
right side has black/green wire that acts as the brown wire on the left side
    I gotta go

Don't see the ground at the front for the directionals. Do I need to remove the headlight to find it?

Okay I got the headlight off and found everything I need. Turns out the previous owner just chopped the old signals out so it'll be easy for me to just plug in.
Now my issue is that the signals I have are from an xs400 (buddy said xj400 but I don't know if that's right) so the wires aren't the same color.
On one signal it's green and orange and on the other it's green and aqua (light blue)
That makes me thing green is the ground because it's common, but which is left and which is right? Does it matter?
Also looking at the interactive wiring diagram, those wires that are cut and spliced together (black and black/yellow) appear to possibly be the clutch safety switch.
What difficulty is it to correct that wiring issue?
    Thanks!

    Xj400 was a Japanese-market inline 4 cyl Maxim

Anyway, green may be ground for you.... If the bulb has only on filament---- if it has two filaments but only two wires, each wire would be hot and the housing/mount would be the ground.

Which is right, and left? Just plug them in, start the bike, and turn on the signal. If the correct one blinks you're all set.... If the opposite one blinks, simply switch the leads.

    Sounds good.
What about the black and yellow? Is that an easy fix?

    Yamaha black should be ground
Easy way to remember left right for signals
Green has the "right" of way
    For Honda
    Are there any oranges "left"

will need a new clutch safety switch if it is missing from the clutch lever housing I posted a link to a thread about it.
if the switch is still in place you will just need to splice ir but my guess is it is gone or defective.
