Hey all, got a couple questions. I have a 83’ xj750m which is my daily rider and I was having shifting issues for a bit and just the other day the bike locked up on me all of a sudden, screeching to a halt. Long story short I got it home and opened up the sump only to find a piece of a shifter fork lying in the pan. Upon further inspection I discovered that the center shifter fork is completely turn around and one of the transmission gears has a broken tooth. Needless to say the tranny, shifter forks and most likely the drum needs to be replaced. I was just wondering if I can use those parts from an 82’ xj650 engine in an 83’ xj750m and is it possible to replace said parts without removing the engine and cracking the case? I can, if need be, I just have had the bike apart 3 times in the past year and would like to avoid another huge project at this time although, somehow I have a feeling that I’m going to be on project #4 soon enough though, lol. Thanks in advance

Quick look at parts list says yes. sorry about your problem but I think she has to come apart. So you have the xj650 as a spare now or do you have to go buy it?

Thank you very much for finding that for me. For some reason I didn't even think about looking up the part numbers. I've actually had the 650 engine sitting around for awhile. I've been using the parts here and there off of it just wasnt too sure about compatibility if I did a tranny swap, It'll definitely cut down on cost and having to wait for the parts. Happen to have any advice when cracking the case. Or anything else for that matter that might just save a little bit of trouble. Thank you for your help. Sorry for any typos and/or grammatical errors. I'm typing this on my phone, while I'm walking home from work.

Yep. The 650 and 750 transmissions are identical.
