Looks to me more like they are just cheap shocks that have been painted flat black.

Agree with Kmoe--- those are just regular shocks painted the same flat black as the rims, rear fender, turn signals, gauge cluster, and what little there is of a muffler. Looks like gaiters, and rags for the forks.

Do the XJ shocks come apart? I don't have mine for reference anymore. If so you could possibly get fork gators big enough to fit around the springs, cut them to length and have some tucked under the end caps to keep in place?

Yes, they do but you have to have the right type of spring compressor to do it

Gotcha, I took my shocks apart to powder coat the springs, we just used a regular press but had a piece fabbed up to let the eye pass through but catch the end cap on one end. Just a piece of steel drilled out to around a 2 1/2 inch hole then lined with duct tape so it wouldn't scratch! Fancy stuff

Exactly. Regular spring compressors don't work for these---- you gotta have the right stuff to allow the eye to pass, etc..... You figured it out :). It's pretty much the same thing as for snowmobile shocks :)

I'm actually running Dyna shocks on mine but I guess they come apart the same way.... as for snowmobiles, don't see too many of those in sunny FL!
