    hello everyone...

just a note to introduce myself...

bought 3rd hand a 1981 XJ550 Maxim in 1992 while in the Air Force. it had been run into a car at one time and had a banged up front fender and owner number 3 replaced the forks...

it had a JB Welded (3rd owner) hole in the clutch cover (behind the brake pedal) and broken rubbers on all of the turn signals. i hung out with him and another guy quite a bit and i gradually did all of the little stuff like a seat re-cover, the turn signals, new (slighly used) rear shocks, new metzlers and fresh spray bomb on the tank (which had been skim coated on the collision dent)...

i got out of the Air Force in 93 and parked it for the winter. i had a heck of time getting it started in 94 and only rode it 2-3 times. i had the side covers painted and the tank completely repaired and painted. it then sat in the garage for 13 years...

some of my current co-workers ride and have been after me to get it out and cleaned up, so i have a new found interest in the little bike...

ill be polishing and shining and cleaning once i get it apart enough to get the grime out of all the nooks and crannies. ill post some pics when its back together...

im looking forward to learning alot here and im sure i wont be disappointed...

Job One is getting you going, in here!
There's a bunch of happy XJ-Riders zooming all over Creation after checkin'-in here!

At least one running fast enough to have a Trooper pull him over and let the rider slide because he coudn't write him a ticket that day ... because he was going so fast, he went back in time, and was speeding yesterday.

Welcome home david. This forum really is a great place to be if you own an XJ type bike. Get that thing fixed up and get out there. Gas ain't gettin' any cheaper.

Where in Michigan are you? We have a few people around here in SE (Wayne County).

If you need some help, when I get back from AT, I'll have some free time.

im up in Fort Gratiot (near Port Huron)...

the bike has been laid up since 1994. its really too small for my wife and i to ride and we like to do things together (i know crazy for MARRIED people!) so it kind of got neglected...

Kontiki, are you THE Kontiki from CSP? amazing that you and i have THREE things in common (if you are THAT Kontiki): Garands, Flying and XJs...

I lived in the U.P. for 3 years. Then somehow ended up in Oklahoma. Still don't know how that happened.
