Working on my bud's 84-XJ650 I noticed 4 holes on top of the black plastic air cleaner case assy. Wondered about it then started searching. I see they may be from case covers. We don't care about the covers but wouldn't it be advisable to plug these up? Would leaving them open cause any engine woes or vacuum leaks? Thanks!

Can you post a pic by chance?

Are the holes in two seperate pairs, one pair for each side of the airbox, on the top close to where the airbox begins to slope downwards?

If your referring to what i think you are, they are for the chrome covers on each lateral side of the airbox. Id plug them with a proper sized screw, that way your bud can install the covers if he finds some.

Plug the holes with back RTV. It can always be dug out later if you want to put the covers on.

Thanks guys! You got back before I could make one comment. I took a piece of wire and poked down the hole and it feels like it's very shallow. Like 3/16" deep. This tells me it doesn't go completely through. I took a couple black auto trim screws and cut them short. They match and can be removed if needed. I usually find these things out some way but always appreciate another set of ears of help. Have a great weekend!

I've got a set of beauty pieces (chrome airbox side covers) from a 83 650 Max for sale if you're interested. Might fit, although I'm not sure if the 84 is technically the same style bike.
