I'm in the process of resealing my forks. When I removed them the very top of the fork was flush with the top of the steering head upper mount, with only the plastic cap protruding above the clamp. I have seen other bikes on this site that the forks appear to be sticking up above the clamp by an inch or so.
Can someone tell me the proper position that the fork is to be installed above this top clamp?
    Thanks

My 650 has the top of the forks level with the upper yoke. In fact all the bikes I have owned run like this.

I could be wrong, but I believe it is supposed to be flush. I suspect the ones that you see around that are not flush, are an attempt at lowering the bike closer to the ground. Care to lower the rear end should acompany moving the fork position in the triple tree. Otherwise the rake and trail of the front axle will be thrown out of whack, and could cause unwanted steering and handling problems. JMHO
