Okay, so my bike is having hard time charging the battery. It seems to do okay if you keep the RPMs high while riding it, but if you just let it idle the lights start to go dim and the bike eventually dies. Here's what I know from following the manual I found online to test the parts of the charging system:

-The battery is only like 8 months old and holds a charge like it should.

-The charging voltage is around 12.5v at 1700rpm and around 13v at around 2500-3000rpm

-The lights will go brighter and the charging voltage increases slightly if you crank the throttle, so I know its not just a broken wire or something like that.

-Resistance between the two tracks on the rotor(I took the stator out when I tested this because the reading kept jumping around, but it stabilized when I took that out): ~5.1 ohms

-Resistance between each of the white wires at the plug (going into maybe the computer? They were the only three big white wires I found so I assume they were the right ones.): ~1.2 ohms, they were all the same there.

I haven't tested the regulator/rectifier yet- I'm hoping it will be easy to determine whats wrong without having to do that.

So, from this, which part needs to be replaced, and can it be fixed instead of replaced?

(attached is a page from the manual I used so you don't have to go find it)

    Thanks, everyone!!

hi, had the same problem with my 700n was getting all the correct resistance readings but found 2 of the 3 white wires were green at plug, pulled wire and snapped the last few strands left , cut out plug removed about 3 inches of wire to find good copper, soldered up now charging at 14.4v at 2000 rpm, may not be your problem but its something to check!!

My stator connector melted. I replaced it with the connector from a spare harness. It's been a yr ago or so, haven't had any problems.
