My 1980 xj 650 right now is a mess with the electrical.. Im wondering if anyone here has any good suggestions for a new wiring harness, ignition coils, and whatever else i need for wiring up the whole ignition system. Im new to electrical work but i plan to do this all on my own, just going to take my time and make sure its all done the right way.

Post a pic of the main harness if you can. It might be salvageable which will help with the other electricals.

That's the fuse box. You had asked about a new main harness. I was hoping you had pulled the main harness. This is a pic of my spare. I've used some of the connectors.

ah, had it confused, that would be all the cables that run into the ignition box on the side of the bike right?

The main harness runs the length of the frame backbone (under the tank) from the headlight bucket to under the seat for the tail and rear signal lights). All of the electricals plug into it including connectors for the tci and rr. It's removable.

    Um.... your fusebox has:
    One extra circuit
    Three 20 amp fuses

    It should have:
    One 20 amp (main)
Three 10 amp (headlight, signal, ignition)

I hope that the rest of the harness is not hacked beyond saving, but you do have to consider what your time is worth vs. the cost of a replacement harness.

Yeah, looks rough. That's why I'm asking for a main harness pic.
