OK this is a silly question and I cant believe Im asking buuutttt.......

my right turn signal lights in the back but not the front. I bought new bulbs, same thing. Decided to take it apart to have a look and.......well there is my problem. I loosened the bolt and nut on the outside sleeve and tried to back it off. It turns a bit left and right and slides out about an inch but then it stops in all directions. What is in there that Im missing?????? Went through my entire Haynes and there isnt a single reference to it. Im lost

Check in the headlight bucket and make sure the bullet connectors are clean and tight .Follow the wires from the lights to these connectors.

There is a shoulder in the stalk the light attaches to. While you loosened that pinch bolt, the shoulder keeps if from coming off. Pull the bolt all the way out and it should come.

Therre's your first mistake. Scrap the Haynes crapbook and get a Chilton's .

I've yet to see a Haynes manual as accurate as a Chilton's.

I'll counter your Haynes comment but I will conceed that Chiltons is getting better. My Haynes has seen me through 17 years of love and attention on my Maxim and I've never once had trouble using it.

Ive never seen Chiltons. Always used the Haynes and the blowout diagrams on the Yamaha site. And now of course, this site!

MiCarl thanks for the info!. I figured there was something in there but having never taken it apart I couldnt figure out which way to turn or pull and was worried about messin some of the wiring up if I went the wrong way.

As the saying goes, the only dumb question is the one not asked. It is good to have sites like this or mechanics bills would be prohibitive.
