Some of you may have noticed my new website URL in my signature. I launched RetiredPoliceCars.com and I'm looking for help to get that site off the ground. I need to build some site membership, content and activity. I'd greatly appreciate if some of you joined the new site and started posting some new threads.

Heck, if you own an ex-police vehicle or know someone that does then join and share the link!

    Thanks!

I have spent time in police cars, but it was before they retired. I'll check it out. See if the back seat still looks the same...

Too funny. This is something like my 4th one. Back seats sometimes have battle scars

Sorry, I need to join another forum like I need another bike project, but I would love to own an old Plymouth Volare retired cruiser. Don't know why that particular model appeals to me, but it just does.
Question for that particular group, how far can one go with a modern car before it is considered to be "impersonating an officer"? To whit, local constabulary uses blacked out Explorers as low profile traffic enforcement. Driving to work and I see in my rear view mirror a blacked out Explorer with LEDs inside the grille and along the upper edge of the windshield, along with a set of LED blocks beneath the upper edge of the rear hatch. But riding alongside there's nothing on the dash, no radar, no additional antennae, and a common license plate (not the normal patrol issue plate). So, not an officer but sure as hell made to look like one with some aftermarket lights and plastidip, and people including me sure as hell got out of his way which I can imagine is the point behind doing it. Without searching, I imagine one can buy full police setups of lights, fake antennae, etc. When does this guy get pulled over and his parts pulled off?

Feel free to post that one up, I'll check it out.

Seriously, a late 70's Police Volare' with a Hellcat drivetrain transplant, Jake and Elwood wouldn't have shit on me...

Are you actually a Sheriff? I must say I beleive there's a big market in the UK and Europe for ex-US police cars - seriously money to be made if you can find a way to avoid the import tax ;).

No, I'm not a cop but I like their cars. Heavy duty, fast, comfy and cheap... Hmmm, interesting idea that I need to research.

Guys, you don't need to own one to post. I just need to build up some content so the webspiders can start crawling it to get some exposure.

@Ribo, Oh? I'll have a look at it and get back to you.

I tried 3 times. Street sign verification stopped me each time. I must be a robot. I'll try from computer some other time.

Just sent my friend Jim an e-mail with the links. He's seriously into old cop cars and has a huge following through the ex-cruiser community. Hope they'll contribute....

I watched Blues Brothers once and they were driving the retired IL state trooper car... does that qualify me?

I guess I always did kind of wonder if some cop cars had like in-dash doughnut humidors...
