The bike is in great condition and has all parts plus two buckets of spare parts. Everything electrical and mechanical works, the bike turns over but will not start. I don't have time to keep playing with this project so I am selling as a whole for 600 or will part out.

Message me with questions and offers.

Thanks for looking and I hope this can find a good home where it will be a donor or a simple project! 0730151359.jpg 0730151359a.jpg

    $600 w/ :
    no mirrors
    No airbox
    Pods
    Wrong master cylinder
    No mufflers
    No grab bar
    No fork emblem
    Wrong bars
    Wrong grips
    Mismatched front fender
    No fender decal

    Was it rejected?
    When were the valves done?
When were the carbs last cleaned?
    T-shaft seals?
    Fuel rail?
    Brakes?
    Tire codes?
    How many miles on it?

You sure it's a 1984? Last year was 1983 unless you have a late leftover that got registered as a "1984".

Be ready for some really low offers around here...

First of all, I never claimed the bike was factory stock. I have the mirrors, fork emblem, muffler, fender decal and all sorts of extra parts (which I already stated in the original post) I just didn't put them on because it's a *non running* project. The valves, carbs, and brakes were done when reassembling the bike after I took off the fenders to paint them. I also put in new ngk plugs and brand new coils. I bought the bike to ride not to research the date on the registration, so no, I am not sure on the precise date it was manufactured.

So hogfiddles, are you suggesting I should just turn in the bike for $40 of scrap? Or what was the aim of your post if you're not interested?

You're new here, you're posting a bike for sale. You're thinking you have a lot of clear info in your post.

We're not new here. We're not just a fan club. We know these bikes inside out. For US, your post doesn't really say much.

We've recently had quite a few "newbies" show up w/a bike to try and sell here as a cheap 'I'm gonna make a quick buck on this wannabe Xj fan club site before the know what hit them and disappear' sale... And then get all bent out of shape when we call them out on some glaring omissions.

I'm just pointing out things that were obvious at even a cursory glance. If you have all the missing parts, cool. When incorrect years are given, it's often a red flag, hence that part of the discussion.

All I said at the end, considering the post, was " Be ready for some really low offers around here". That's the reality check. Now, if you have all the parts, and can answer the rest of the questions that were originally posed, you might get higher offers. But, I can pretty well assure you you're gonna get a whole lot more questions than I asked.

Am I interested? No.... I have about 30 of them.

Am I trying to help you get a better sense of who your market is? What you will need to answer? Yes.

Are you here for a legit sale? Good luck, I wish you the best.

Are you here thinking you're gonna pull a quick one here? Good luck, you're gonna need it.

    Enough said.

Where are you ? I would have to investigate a shipping outfit in your area. Do you have the title ? The missing parts in a box? I would send
usps money order for amount agreed upon. I won't pay more for the bike plus shipping than I would pay for a running bike in New Mexico.
Please send more pics also take a pic of yourself posing with the bike holding a dated newspaper cover that I can read. I need to id you.

around here, that's a 600$ bike all day long. what concerns me is the rust where the VIN number lives. not saying anythings wrong but if you put it on craigslist or something, put some paint on there

In New Mexico we have to get a sheriff's deputy to generate a document confirming that the
vin #s on the bike are the same as the ones on our title application,That is, If there is no title.
Even if there is a title I would be in the parking lot of the County Sheriff's office explaining
why there are grinder marks where the vin # should be

I'm not seeing rust/etc... Where the VIN sticker should be, I only see it where the frame reflector should be. But, I only see two pics. Are there more pics somewhere else?

Yea I agree with hogfiddles. Where the reflectors should be (or on my case the ignition coil is located) is where the spot of rust is located on the picture of this particular bike. The VIN# is just in front of the rust spot on the part of the frame that the forks go through (like the steering column) and it runs sideways if you are standing on the ground looking at the bike. Refer to this picture:

So it shouldn't look too sketchy if the rust spot has been sanded or had a grinder taken to it, whether that be to try and remove rust or for some other reason. In Georgia we have to do what joejr2 said, which is, if you buy a bike before 1986 (one not requiring a title but instead can be purchased with a bill of sale) a police officer has to check the bikes vin# and compare it to the bill of sale vin#. Then they run the Vin# to make sure there are no reports of it being stolen or money owed on it, etc. Then he signs a form that you take to get it tagged and registered.

Correct... The VIN tag is on the headtube. The VIN IS ALSO stamped into the metal of the tube. Sometime the tag was stuck on over the number but usually both stamping and tag are away from each other. I can't see whether the tag is missing, worn, or painted over. I can't zoom in enough and maintain a clear picture. The rust spot is where the mounts for the frame reflector should be, but appears that they have been ground off... And not painted over, hence the rust. I wonder what the other side looks like.

Hmmm, lots of conversation on this bike --- yet the seller hasn't shown up since Sunday at 3:16pm, when he made his only reply. Now its thursday evening.....I'd think if he really wanted to sell, he'd be here answering questions.

Not that we don't trust new members looking to sell only but if the OP return and you decide to purchase there are ways to insure you receive the bike and parts in the condition as stated around the same time he receives payment. He never asked but if the mill is viable you'll know what to do to make it run.
