Can I tension or adjust the clutch on these bikes or am I forced to replace the entire clutch assembly? I don't have a clymers or equivilent (yet). Got the bike for free (14,000 miles on it), but not sure how much money I wish to pump into it. Any info would be helpful. Thx.

    Adjust the Clutch; first.

Turn-in the Knurl adjuster on the Clutch Perch.
Adjust the Slack out at the Clutch-end adjustment.

Tweak 1.5 ~ 2.0 Free play in the Cable by adjusting the Knurl.

If it still slips with free play adjusted on the Cable ... you'll need to do other investigating.

My "Other investigating" would be where to procure a Whole New Clutch and Hardware.

Nothing rides like a New Clutch and You and your Bike deserve a New Clutch if needed.
(It is not necessary to replace the Steel Clutch Drivers unless they are Burned, Warped or Scratched-up from metal to metal contact.

    free bike? I'm jealous!!

anyway... start with adjusting the clutch as Rick stated. Even if you have to put a new clutch in...still cheaper than what you would pay for a bike...so money well spent. Especially if that is the only problem with it!

    Oh ...

    It's a FREE Bike!
In that case ... Do a Whole NEW Clutch; anyway.

You ought to be able to get the whole shootin'-match for unner uh hunnit!

wow, friction plates and springs for under $100. Winner!!

I'll have to remember that if I ever need a clutch. How long do they usually last?

For years and years if you don't ride it!! Seriously, I'd say it varies completely on riding style....

ok...was just looking for an average. My bike has 7200 miles on it and it doesn't slip, but I was wondering.
