So my signal bulb is not working. They are: 12V27W 1156.

When I was googling it, I noticed there were LED versions: http://www.amazon.ca/350-380LM-6500...F8&qid=1444830834&sr=8-1&keywords=12V27W+1156

CAn I just swap them out. Also my signal lights do not FLASH when I'm idle at the stop sign. They only FLASH after > 2000RPM as the voltage is higher.

So I'm assuming if I went to LED, I'd reduce the load and enable the the LED"s to flash at idle (@1400RPM - Yeah yeah yeah I gotta clean the carbs). Also I upgraded headlamp and tach/speedometer bulbs so I'm hoping to reduce the voltage load on the signal lights. NO?

maybe you should find out what your current problems are before you make the change. not flashing at idle.
check your battery, how old is it? filled proper levels? distilled water only.
do a starting test on the battery see what your voltage drop is.

going led is good thing reduces current draw on alternator and drag on motor by alternator,
the thread posted above will get you all led. do not forget about tail light and lic plate light they are always on and the best place to start as are the cluster lights.
what you got for a cycle add it to your signiture line/ profile

I was thinking of doing the same thing. From what I understand, the signal actuator needs to be changed as well. Apparently, the incandescent lights have a different effect on it and it can cause it to blink at a different rate it not at all.
Might be a good thing to check into.

You know what, that article was a good read and I decided to just buy some GE NightHawks 1156 to keep things simple and moving. Not worth my time and more complicated than I expected :(

The stock lights work. I still have one original 1156 bulb in mine.

Sounds like there might be a market for me to put together a few of these Yamaha-compatible electronic flasher modules. I may do that.

you can always start with the tail lights and plate lights, they are always on ,with no system mods and would save you some watts , all the time as opposed to just directionals which get less use and are done mostly for show .
also consider the lights in the speedo and tach always on, those items taillights and speedo/tach lights give you more bang for the buck as far as saving wattage. consider the high beam indicator as well if you do a lot of night riding.
oil light, neutral light signal light not so much.

That's true. I did upgrade the tach/speedo lights to make them brighter. Also upgraded the head light and I that's the biggest load. next time my tail light runs out, i'll change to LED.

What did you use for a replacement headlight? And how do you like it?

    this looks interesting at 65$

I use a H4 blue bulb standard type bulb lights up the road better than my automobile.
of course there are only street lights at the main intersections where i ride at night.

I have moose and bears on the road I have to look for.
let us know how much it improves your lighting.
what are you currently using for a light? not the old sealed beam i assume?
by your location there may not be much left of our riding season

unless you have a very stock bike, why not look around for some turn signals made in this century?
they might not take the same bulbs, mine don't

Philips 9003 MotoVision Motorcycle and Powersport Replacement Headlight Bulb. This is the one i am using, works well. also upgrade the driving light bulb H3 i think it was to a 55 watt, from the original 35watt. But draws a lot of power. Slow turn signals. I tried changing the tail light bulbs to LED and the tail light warning stayed on. headlight on low beam and driving light on pretty much don't blink at idle. Battery test good also only 2 years old. Replaced the fuse box with a better box. New 1156 bulbs 27watts. Tried 24 watt don't blink. Would going to 32watt bulb work? Also rebuilt alternator.
