I’m having issues with my front left front flasher. I bumped into something and cracked the housing and found a new one on eBay for $10 so I went ahead and replaced it before I had any water leaks.

When I was replacing it, I pulled a wire and can’t seem to get the flasher functional. I soldered the wire back and currently have a red to one of the light terminals, black to another, and black with white stripe to the washer at the base of the light.

When I turn the key, only that left front turn signal comes on with the brighter of the two lights. When I turn on the left flasher, the rear flasher and dash indicator stay on and do not flash. The right flashers work as they should, dash indicator included.

The wiring from light to dash: black to black, black/white stripe to black/white stripe, red to brown

I’m assuming the same relay would control both sides

    what kind of bike?
is this a directional and running light?
is it a new bulb? needs to be 27 watts
are you sure both elements are not coming on?
    check your ground

Double check which wire is ground, running, and turn signal. Do the same for the bike wire and match them up.... If your using an aftermarket unit, the colors may or may not actually be the same ( or correct, for that matter)

This issue did not begin until I pulled that wire. Both bulbs are the same (1034 23W I believe) and all of the wires are as they were on the bulb harness and I'm pretty positive the wiring under the dash is as it was. I guess my next step would be to replace the 1034 bulbs with 27W bulbs and see if that is the issue. When I replaced the flasher plastic housing, I kept the same lighting harness and bulb because the replacement had two wires. I didnt change anything but the connection to the black/white stripe wire coming from the bulb harness mounted in a washer a the base of the bulb. I resoldered this wire with existing solder on that washer.

ohm out your ground from battery to holder. outer shell of bulb socket is ground. remove bulb to do this
bulb.PNG if ground is broken bulb can light both filliments each filliment should be the same brightness
    see how they share ground
if you tell us what bike you have I can look at the wiring diagram.
you may have a bad re solder joint

Problem solved. Not sure if the 27W bulb was the solution, but tried a new combo of wires and got it. From light to dash - black to brown, black/white stripe to black, red to black/white stripe. Guess and check method trumps logic

The colour of the wire really won't matter for lights, but my lights ground through a wire and not from the mount

Exactly… And that's why I said you have to match up the wires, not necessarily the colors. For example, you want your Blinker wire to go to the brighter flashing filament not the dimmer running light filament… etc

I started a new thread but am also having issues with my auxiliary light below my headlight. It pulses and seems to cut out when the engine revs higher. At lower rpms and idling, it shines bright
