Just thought I would start a thread on my XJ750RL restoration. I purchased the bike locally as a running but unregistered concern. The PO was a collector of Yamaha bikes, all 1970-80 but this 83 RL was taking up space and he did not have the time to restore it. The owner before him had painted the bike matt black but the paint was all crazed and the fairing was missing. It had also been dropped once and most of the side panels etc were damaged. I forgot to take pics of when I got it home so sorry but I have added some of the re-painted frame and swing arm. I decided to do a complete strip down and restoration to original specs. I have done the follow so far:
    • Stripped and cleaned everything
    • fitted now wheel bearings and seals
    • fitted now swing arm bearings and seals
    • fitted new seals in the diff
    • Repaired some rust in the frame (treated the inside of the frame for rust)
    • Painted the frame with enamel
    • Painted the swing arm with enamel
    • Tracked down and purchased a new tail light and new fairing and bracket
    • fitted new dial faces and in the process of refurbing the instrument cluster

I have already had some great help from this forum so thanks to all. I will keep posting as progress continues.

Like the silver swing arm. Just like my 1978 YZ125. How come you don't work out anymore?
