The weather isn't the best but I'm running out of time this fall so this weekend is it. I'm not sure if it will be Fri, Sat, & Sun or Sat, Sun, & Mon. I would like to know if any of you that use this form will be there. I also plan to stay at Kickstand Lodge. I take a different bike each year so I won't be on an XJ this time, I'm riding an XS850.
I hope to see one of you.

I'm exactly opposite. Never on the freeway if i can help it! For me, not much feels better than accelerating out of a curve, red leaves swirling in my wake! So many great country roads where i live, the only problem is the amount of farmers driving slowly, and ALWAYS IN THE CORNERS! To answer op, I only wish I could go to Dragon, so I'll just have to find my own. If you need me, I'll be searching!

Approaching twisties with a proficient riding style takes tempting fate out of the equation.

Sounds like someone has been watching too many fail videos on YouTube.

More cagers on the freeway = more uncontrollable risk. How many have gone under the wheels of an suv and walked away vs low side in a corner and ride away? Either way, as long as you enjoy the ride, it's all good. Stay safe, whatever your road!

Also, I'm no Wayne rainey, so I don't even get near to 75% of bikes capacity. My pegs will never drag.

    No.

Your statement above holds as much truth as this one:
"People who eat bacon are smarter than those that don't"

Most motorcycle accidents are the result of reckless riding. Add to that the cager idiots that get off on seeing someone wreck so they can have something to talk about. These are some of the things that make it dangerous to ride the dragon.Motorcycles are designed and built to be ridden; they are modes of transportation. It's most unfortunate when a rider is injured or lost when he/she is not at fault.

Wait a minute ... all that bacon and I'm not any smarter than when I started?

Personally, I like both. I take the highway to work, but leave early so there are few cars on the road. I love the curves, but I am very tame with them, especially as it's my first year riding. I tend to be a low risk individual, so I will probably always be cautious with the twisties. But, to each their own. Everyone has different skill levels and differing levels of risk they are willing to take.

I had to wait a week due to weather so last Fri, Sat, & Sun I made my trip. The colors were fantastic and the weather was good. I spent the first night at Kickstand Lodge and the other night at Iron Horse. I highly recommend both places. Each place is different but good. The dragon was fun but really there are better places out there such as Highway 28. It has less people and a lot of variety. As far as twisties vs interstate, to each his own. I must say our Xjbikes perform very well on these roads. The heavy cruzers and Harleys do not. Mainly stay within your skill level. I saw two wrecks out there one was a Harley and the was a Honda Civic. Both cases they were driving beyond their skill level.
If I knew how to post pictures I would post some. If you go to WWW.US129Photos.com select" buy and review photos", October 23, Tour and Sportbikes, and go to image 1228 taken at 2:58 you can see my bike.
    Ride Safe!

Ron I am glad to that you had a good time at the dragon and I agree there are much better roads in the area. The dragon has become a tourist trap. I have rode many bikes but hands down the most fun in the twists was my XJ750.

    cgutz,
I used to live in Sioux Falls ...I loved the annual camping trip to the Black Hills. What town do you live in?

If you ever drive a freeway in South Dakota, you will know the 80mph is a blessing. Wide open, no traffic, straight roads. At 65 you feel like you can walk beside the car, and it takes forever to get across the state. Believe it or not, moving the speed limit from 75 to 80 actually slowed the traffic down, as they really enforce 80. No more driving 85 in a 75 zone.

However, 80mph is too fast for a motorcycle. When the trucks go by you at 80, and you are in the right lane at 65, they blow you off the road or suck you into their lane.

Black top and county highways for my rides.

Weather holding, still on the cycle.
