Was just given an 85 xj700x that has been in storage for a few years. It was bought at an auction by the guy that gave it to me. It has 8500 miles on it and the forum has already helped me with the valve adjusting (none needed) carb research, tear down, cleaning, reassembly, sync and road tuning. And it runs great!
Question - the manual states 20-40w, is this still the best viscosity for today's standards? I'm in AZ (for climate/temp).

Thanks for the assistance, and keep the rubber side down!

    Stumpy,
    Who; me?

    Casting,
Viscocity has nothing to do with today's standards. The standard for viscocity remains the same, and is dependent on expected temperature, and engine design.

Thanks! Funny thing, I just read that information looking at a post regarding speedometers that you commented on. I noticed the links below that signature... the other topic is a plethora of information!

    Much appreciated!

I use Rotella 15W-40 in almost everything with no issues :)
The exceptions being my wife's fancy Rav-4 that gets the reccomended super-fancy synthetic 5W-30, and my 2 smoke engines.

    Yes,
Your knowledge on everything oily/ greasy is very impressive.
Coupled with your two-wheel wisdom begs the question:
What did you do in a previous life?
