Does anyone know if the factory Maxim 750 key switch can handle 20 amps running through it? I'm doing the minimal wiring harness but would like to keep the key switch. Thanks.

should handle what ever the main fuse size is that is where it gets its power and redistrubutes it to the other fuses

main fuse is at least a 20 amp.

    do you have these drawings?

Yeah I've got those. I figured the "main switch" was just a toggle switch like most dudes use on their chopped harness'.

    you figured correctly
yup it is and it just locks and can lock steering for anti theft. and supplies power to fuses except main which is always hot from the battery. turns on the tail light and plate light. just like the min wire diagram shows
if you keep power to the ignition when bike is shut down you will get a back fire after about a minute.
wise choice to keep the key

Good to know. I bought this bike, rode it once around the block. Now it's in 1,000 pieces. Loving every minute of it. Awesome learning process.

how many wires on your key switch? if you have 5 the two of them were used for the battery monitor, that you won't use anymore. but you can put those two in parallel with the main switch and have more than enough capacity

From what I remember, there are three wires coming off the key switch.
