I go back a bit further than you blokes in the old fart stakes. Me and a mate played the bunk from school and queued all day at the Dominion theatre in Tottenham Court Road for tickets to see Bill Haley and the Comets. I got home at 7pm all excited and walked straight into the back of my mams hand.

Just played that for my wife, real nosalgia trip. They were never huge on the West Coast, but back in the midwest, they were pretty big. My wife used to have a huge crush on Andy Scott, now she says ewwwwww.....monkey boy. cruzerjd

Thanks for that Ridz got angina just listening to it. It's still one of my all time favourites and seeing The Comets was well worth the clump I got from my old girl.

It just doesn't seem that long ago that this song was being played on the radio a lot :? ....time flys! I still can't help to cringe at the wardrobe of some of those artists during that time and others as well. I was a 60's and 70's child being I'm 49 years old today.

I don't remember them, the song sounded kinda familar. I'm a child of the 60's as well. The way they dress they must have been in the 70's, a lot of new groups back then.

Thanks for the link, brings back some good memories. Life was simple back then.

Bill HAley was in my opinion, the pioneer of "hard rock". Smashing riffs, fast guitar solo's and talking double entendre about getting wild and getting laid. The guitar solo in "Rock around the clock" is one of the classic riffs of all time. Lots of players in the 60's who influenced players in the 70's, ad infinitum, quote haleys guitarists as one of there favorite players. Elvis Presleys guitarist was phenominal too. But neither could hold a candle to Les Paul, that guy rocked everyones world. Father of the solid body electric guitar (yeah, Leo Fender made one too...after Les paul though).and still rocking after 60 years in the business. Good stuff, cruzerjd

My brother and I listened to "Sweet" in the early 70s. I think one of the old 8-track tapes is still hanging around at my parents' house!

Did you notice the "BOOK THEM" link on the Sweet web site? It wouldn't work, but I assume that means a) some reincarnation of the band is still around or b) the original members are doing the retirement community circuit?

I just clicked the link and it opend up my email to send a message.

I imagine the group must eaither be a tribute band or they are still going but with a new lead singer. The origonal singer has been dead a few years now. His brother Mark McManus was a famous actor here in Scotland. he used to play a gritty Glasgow detective name "Taggart" on TV

Man, We were too cool. These kids today have nothing on us. All I wanted to do was have fun. Not beat the crap out of some one. or any of the stuff they do today. I tried to grow long hair but all I got was a big head of bussy hair. I was still cool. Not Kewl. ROCK ON!!!
