here is a few pics of a air box my son made for the Xj55o project. Going through the carbs now an, jetted to 37.5 idle, 120 mains and 170 pilot air jets. got to replace throttle shaft seals and fuel O-rings. have some major air leaks. Seems that pods don't work well so he come up with this design.

Looks like it might work pretty well.

FYI to embed photos, copy the link ot the image file, click the little picture button on the forum toolbar (looks like a moon over mountains), and copy into the pop-up box, then hit insert.

What's the purpose - did you lose your stock air box ?

What kind of filter is that?

I suppose this design makes it a lot easier to pull the carbs and put them back in.

Is it possible to first slip the filter box and airboots on the carbs and secure them, and then slide the whole thing between the frame and the engine, then push the whole thing in the intake boots?

Wouldn't partially PlastiDipping pods have a similar effect?

It is made from sheet metal,my son made. The filter is from UNI. They sell sheets in a 14 x36. just cut to fit. Don't know what it going to do. Its not very restrictive. Got to get the seals fixed before i try it out. Easy to get on and out though. Might at least stop the turbulence on the outboard on 1 and 4, that was his idea. jetted to 37.5 idle, 120 mains and 170 pilot air jets.

Not especially restrictive. Be interested to see how she runs.

Don't know much about Pods, they worked well on a XS650 me and my son built. Had to shield the sides and jet the hell out of it. Seems the YICS don't like individual intakes. That's why most leave the air box in. If you are building a cafe chop or a bobber its the first thing to go. i got the stock air box just trying things out.

It's not the YICS that doesn't like pods; it's the CV carbs. Rickomatic did an extensive write up on the matter.

I've run CV carb's on Harley's with open velocity stacks, had to jet the hell out of them and the idle mix screw turned way out but they ran and idled.
