This was my first bike and I'm a big fan, but I am going to look at another tomorrow so I need to sell my 1981 XJ750R.

Its got around 48k miles, I've put 5-6 thousand on it since I got it this past June. I'm the third owner, the last guy bought it for a gas saver to work and it made him nervous on the highway so he stopped driving it. I've taken it on several road trips without the slightest hiccup.

The clutch slips at high rpm's, especially when it's cold and the valve cover gasket is leaking a little. The return spring on the shifter also seems to have come loose. I've had slight electrical problems which have almost all been resolved (I changed the battery and the sensor doesn't work with the new battery so the warning light flashes)

    1981 XJ750R Seca
    Hoping to get around $2500

If you fix everything, put new tires on it, do the brakes, upgrade the fuse box, clean the carbs, get the valve clearances in spec, and sync and colortune it... You might get that kind of price.

Otherwise you're looking around half that or most likely even substantially less.

    Hey,

Glad to see somebody else from the queen city here. I know you have a selling price in mind but you want to understand what goes into the decision of buying a bike.

As I have considered and even now thinking about buying something that is road ready. I look at bikes on the market and ask myself. What makes them worth what they ask?

    Look at this bike: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-Othe...3NYAAOSwYIhWira0&item=272095138792&rmvSB=true

This is a bike in pristine condition for a collector.

    Your bike

I sent a PM to him with just about the same observation. I pointed out the mint midnight maxim on ebay compared to his bike.
