I have a 1995 Suzuki intruder 800 that I got recently. Both coils have 2 wires going into them. Both wires are hot on each one but they will not fire. What could be wrong. It has a bad battery in it and we have been using the battery charger so maybe they have to have 12v to run? If anyone can help me I'd appreciate it even if it's not an xj bike.

Maybe it has a computer on it somewhere that will cause it not to run unless it has 12v. It's got me puzzled. I would think that if it had 12 volts going in to the coil and it is grounded good that it should fire. I can see one coil possibly going out but not both. Who knows maybe that's why I got them so cheap;)

Well, you're already on the intruder 800 forums at motorcycleforum, let them work it for you. You can also get on intruderalert.com. I'm on there for my 1500. tons of info to start with there, too

+1 What Dave said. Are you getting 12v at the main fuse? A bad battery could be a dead cell. Ohm out the coils (if the primary is off you know the secondary will be off).

I got it going! Now for the next problem, have a carburetor spitting gas and fire out of it.

I'm not sure. I put my battery out of my xj in it and it started firing. So I'm guessing it was just a bad battery. I'm thinking that mufti at may possibly have a hole in it causing it to flood and dump gas like it is.

When the ignition is on, and the engine is not running, both low voltage wires on a non-CDI coil will have 12V. It's the ground that gets connected and disconnected by the ignition system, not the 12V.
