I am changing out fork seals and was cleaning off the lower tubes of some adhesive left over from an inspection sticker and noticed I was also taking off som type of film on the forks. Have I messed up the metal on forks? Thanks

nope, its either the old sticker or clear coat that was on the forks from the factory. I'm sure most all the clear coat is gone from age, the sticker was protecting the last bit to hang on.

Good. I noticed a few other yellow spots to, do I need to put anything back on to protect the metal?

Some people polish them shiny and stop. Others clear coat. me.. I have a can of semi gloss black paint that takes care of most of my discoloration problems
