    Hello

My starter is disengaging after a few revolutions or sooner or not engaging until I try again.
What causes this problem and how do I fix it.

PS not always but more often as time goes on

    Thanks

what do you mean by engaging?
starter stops spinning or does not spin? could be starter button and connections to solenoid, failing solenoid, failing starter.
or spins and motor does not turn over?

Do you hear a sound that resembles a can full of rocks rolling down the driveway?

Your starter cluth is slipping. What oil do you have in the sump?

Sticky starter clutch, wrong oil, sluggish starter, worn brushes, weak battery, corroded cables, etc....'
You gotta narrow it down a bit more---

Non synthetic motorcycle oil. New battery but it was 20 degrees out the other day when I was starting it to get some stabilizer in the carbs before the big snow. I did change from roltella to real motorcycle oil this year thinking I was doing something good for it.

Then the oil has nothing to do with it. Rotella Triple Protection is real motorcyle oil.

The temperature might be a factor, but I don't have clutch slippage when temps drop to the 20's.
If the battery is fully charged (confirmed with a voltage reading) and in good condition (confirmed with a load test), then the next easy thing to check is the condition of the starter motor. Take it off and bench test it. It should spin very energetically. If not, then it's due for a rebuild (honestly I'd cean it out and put new brushes and grease in it even if it does spin well).

Hey guys, I don't wish to hijack jamings thread here, but I have the same problem. I have the can of rocks sound when trying to start my Seca. However its only when the bike has been running for a period of time and it's warmed up, and works perfect when the temperature of the motor is cooler such as initial start up. I'm thinking maybe we can solve the same issue 2 people are having without starting another thread. Thanks for any info guys

Meh... It's the same common issue. There are already plenty of forums on it, just do your search and you'll find them
