Since I have to do carb overhaul, I've been doing some extensive reading on this site. And from what I understand, after I clean the carbs I have to syncronize them all, which in turn is making them all have the same amount of vaccuum, from what I understand? Then I'm reading about colortune. I'm not really understanding what this is and if it is a vital part of the overhaul process. If so, how do I go about doing this? And is there anything vital I should know before goign about carb cleaning and syncing my carbs?

Any information is greatly appreciated, I'm just getting into wrenching on carbs and motorcycles. I find it to be quite fun! And once I get the bike going, i'll be sure to get pictures up of my magnificent machine!

Syncronizing the carbs means getting all the butterfly plates set the same as the plate on number 3 carb. This will make the vacume close enough to get the bike going. Then when the bike is going you need to use a carb sync tool (brought or homemade) to fine tune.

Setting the carb mixtures to between 2.5 and 3 out from closed is close enough to get the bike going. You then need to fine tune, for this a colortune "spark plug" can be used.
Colortuning is setting the mixtures in the carbs correctly when the engine is running.

You also need to set the floats.

All these details are on the forum and the search will bring up the details you need.

Make sure that you use correctly fitting screwdrivers for any jets and the mixture screws. It is very easy to damage the brass jets if you do not use the correct screwdrivers. Be careful removing the pins of the floats as the mountings can snap. Don't split the carbs from the rack and do 1 carb at a time.
