    Hey all,

I recently found a solid 94 XJ600 plant for a pretty decent price. It's currently in a running Seca II. My question is this:
Is it worth the effort to swap the motors? From what I've read, it should be a fairly direct swap. I can pull the carbs and any other parts from the Seca II. My 550 motor is solid, so this would be a modification for more power, not necessarily because my motor is bad. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

I have no experience on this, but I've read a lot of stuff since joining here :)

I believe you need a pre-Seca II XJ600 motor, the later ones had the cylinders tilted forward and would hit the frame among other things I'm sure.

+1. In addition how much power would you gain for all the work? It would be much different if you wanted to put a 750 mill in your 550.

I think you may be right here. I was originally under the assumption that the block was the same and that the motor was just mounted funny. I looked at some pictures and it looks like the actual motor is tilted.

I saw this post and it looked like a fairly large improvement for (what I thought) was a straight forward swap. It looks like I may be mistaken though.

As far as swapping in a 750 mill, I wasn't aware that it was possible without a lot of work due to the shaft/chain drive.

This ^^ the one your looking at won't fit. Maybe an FJ600 will but you will also need TCI, carbs etc.. and teh carbs (BS32s) will be a tight fit they are physically bigger (not just bore)..

That's easy, it's just an overbore, I did it to my one
I think one of the Cafe racer guys had fitted Seca 2 top end to his 550, so some bits swap over

what are you looking for in the upgrade?
red line rpm is what dictates your current top end speed.
if you are just looking for quicker change the sprockets

I was just looking for some more power. My bike started out as a Maxim, so it was a little down on power when compared to a Seca. I'm currently running a MAC 4-1 exhaust and K&N pods with a Dynojet stage 3 kit with some tweaks to the pilot jets. It runs really well, but I figured if I could bump up 20 or so HP for less than 400, I'd do it.

Cams + jetting is the only difference between the two XJ550 motors.

It's not down on power; it's up on torque.

If you really want more power, get an 1100. The first time twisting the throttle of an XJ1100 on the freeway is something you will never forget. 95 hp. I rode an XJ650 for 4 years before I bought the 1100. The difference is startling.
