Hey guys recently I've noticed my bike vibrates a lot more than usual. When I cold start it (untill it warms up) their is a slight clicking clucking ticking ? Noise that may be something rattling, thought I'd mention it if it helps. Any ideas ?
    P.s. bike is an 81 seca 750

It doesn't run rough it just makes some noise vibration happens only when riding. And yes it clears up

    What is the maintenance history?
At what RPMs is the vibration the most noticeable?
Is the ticking most noticeable at the right side of the valve cover?

    Speedo or tach?
Or is it in the engine, or can you tell for sure?

It's definitely the engine and its around 6 to 8 thousand rpms. I think the ticking is coming from the right side

There is a known issue with the cam end-gap causing noise. It doesn't need to be addressed since the end-gap is not large enough to cause any damage. It is most common to hear the tapping room the right side who you have a bike with the larger than normal cam end-gap.

Back to the mintainance question. When was the last time you checked valve clearances, synchronized the carbs, changed the oil, or done any other maintainance? This will help narrow down the cause of the vibration.

Guy before me did the carbs and their synched perfect. All oil and fluids changed 200 miles ago. And no I don't know when the clearances were checked (sigh) I was thinking it was something to do with the valve clearances. Previous owner said they were done recently but I am doubting that

Unless you did the work yourself you should assume that it has not been done. Valve noise is normal; it's the vibration that may be an issue. If the carbs aren't synced there can be excess vibration in the rev range that you are citing.

I'm gonna check the valve clearances as soon as the tool gets here. Does xj4ever sell the shims ?

Check the clearances and record the shim #'s and current locations... inevitably, if you have to swap shims out, some of the ones you already have can be moved to other locations... you'll only need to replace (maybe you purchase... Len/chacal just above in the post, or swap in the shim pool... hit up hogfiddles for that)- the ones you don't have...

If you end up buying... Chacal has everything and is awesome. I'm expecting my carb rebuild parts to arrive tomorrow!

Update: just checked the clearances and all are good except for one which is insanely tight. it measures .oo15 inches or .038 mm on the inlet side. I love this forum you guys know what is going on with these bikes.

    1. Get the shim number off the tight one.
    2. Do the calculation based on your findings and the shim grid for your engine.
    3. Post what you have/need.

Someone out there may be willing to swap. If not, purchasing just one is not bad.
Again... now might be a good time to pull all of them just to record what you have there under the cover...
