Hello again. Well guys I finally got it! First o want to say thanks again for all the help! Today I got my carbs put back on my xj750 after doing the "church of clean", held my breath and it fired right up! Just had to adjust the idle down and she runs great. I have a small oil leak from around the oil filter cover which I will address tomorrow and then I will ride for the very first time since I got the bike four years ago. It's been an adventure because I have never done a restore before on any bike. I did it all. New tires, brakes, wiring, fuse box, even all LED lights with proper flasher, many parts were missing which I replaced. New exhaust header, re-jetted the carbs to match exhaust and drilled airbox that PO had done. I do need one more bit of help though. Under the right side engine cover that says YICS there is a plug with a 10mm Allen head. It was dealing oil and when I tightened it, it broke. I see there is a O ring behind it but I must find a replacement. What would it be called and where can I get one. I just hope I can get the broken one out. Again, thanks for all the help o found on here! Bike runs great!

That is the main oil gallery plug. Don't run the engine until you have a replacement. Chacal has them, or you can order one from Yamaha (and wait longer to get it).
Once the new one is in place just leave it alone. There is no reason for it to be removed during normal use (that yours was leaking makes it OK to have messed with it).

The oil leak at the filter housing will likely be because of the o-ring being either old and leaky, or not having been seated correctly in the cover groove.

    Have you done valve clearances?

Ok that sounds good. How do I order a replacement from Chacal? Also I figured the oil filter housing leak was probably the O ring because I had to replace the housing with one from eBay. Maybe Chacal has that O ring also? No I haven't checked the valve clearances yet but I plan on taking it to a shop for that. I'm not sure if I'm ready to try that task yet. Is it something a newbie like me can do?

Start a conversation with Chacal and he'll get back to you about your needs.

Valve clearance checks and adjustments are a basic maintainance item. You've sucessfully cleaned and rebuilt carbs, which are an advanced maintainance item.
    You can tackle the valves.

Ok I will read up on the valve clearance thing. The engine does have almost 40k miles on it so I know it must be done. Sure sounds good now though. Now I have to figure out how to contact Chacal on here. Lol

If you have 40k on the engine and the valves haven't Been done that you know of.... You're running about 6 valve-shim-checks behind maintenance schedule

Yeah I believe that. I have no idea what all the PO did or didn't do. One thing I do know is the front forks were replaced with ones from a Seca so it's a maxim that has the anti-dive system. I did flush the entire system when I replaced the brake pads

I will post some pictures when I'm completely done. It sure looks alot better now! The old license plate on it has the last sticker of 1992 so it sat for a long time!

+1 what k-moe said. All of this is harder than checking valves clearances.
