hi.. my front disk brake -1984 xj650- is really bothering me the front disk is not that powerful I know its an old setup but can I just use a single steel braid hose and remove the small metal part found in the original setup? what is it really for anyway?

    thank u.

Yes you can. The original distribution block was to keep the brake line routed cleanly without kinking (and for actual distribution in a two-caliper setup). If you have not rebiult the caliper and master cylinder, please do so. That will help braking performance and saffety immensely. Also get in the habit of taking advantage of engine braking.

+1 on taking the caliper apart and replacing the rubber parts. Remove all of the baked-on caked-on rubber from the caliper bore. Do the same to the master cylinder.

Stainless steel brake line is the best for improved grip. If your continuous brake line fits it should work.

I just did this conversion on my XJ550. Took out the metal part and used one long braided steel brake line. I routed the brake line along the exact same path as the original lines. I also suggest cleaning and rebuilding the master cylinder and caliper, it's neither hard nor expensive. To cut costs I used bikebandit.com for the master cylinder and caliper rebuild kits, and the steel brake line. All parts from them fit the bike perfectly. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
