The eng works great, I just took it out of the frame to get the frame powder coated.
Can I paint the eng myself? Will the rattle can job hold-up enough?
    How should I prep it?

Prep would mainly include degreasing and lightly sanding with 300 grit so the new paint sticks well. The rattle can will hold up as long as it is high temp paint. Either engine or brake caliper paint is best. VHT makes some of the best and many here have used it.

The way I did mine was remove all the wiring, the carb mounts, plugged up the exhaust outlet and the inlet holes with paper towels (2 in each hole, but don't push them right the way in!!) then gaffer taped overthe top of each hole twice. Final check for any other rubber, wiring & holes I might have missed then painted Nitromorse Auto (paint stripper) over the engine then used my pressure washer to spray it off. A word of caution though, I did this outside my garage as far away from anything that would get damaged, and wore goggles, thick rubber gloves and an old leather welding apron, you don't want pressurised paint stripper in your face!

There are pictures of it in my gallery on here.

Forgot to mention, I then sprayed it with three cans of high temp rattle cans.
