For Sale: a rear rack for Maxims.

This rack came to me on an 82 650 Maxim. It bolts right up nice and level to the appropriate factory mounts. Clearly it was made to fit. I sold that bike and got an 83 750 Maxim. I had this rack on that bike for 3 years. Fits fine BUT it requires the use of two little 2" dog bones I made up to reach the forward mounts. They are not visible. It was never an issue. You can have them with the rack. It may be made by KG, but I don't know. It was chromed. I had it powdercoated a low gloss black quite recently. Very few miles since then so the finish is in very nice shape. I brazed six 8mm nuts on to it, before coating. 4 serve to allow mounting a length of flat stock that supports soft saddle bags. You can have those too. The other two holes give mount points for turn signals to get the stockers out of saddlebag space. There is a telescoping backrest. I replaced the bad stock pad. My wife said the new arrangement was WAY more comfortable. The only opinion that matters. All in all, it's a really solid rack, with some really useful custom bits, and a great finish. One of a kind. $175 + shipping from north of Seattle. I have pix of it on both bikes if that'll help. That looks sweet, maybe I'll swing by sometime and check it out! I took my bike out the other day for about a mile until I saw some frost on the ground and turned back. I've been itching for a long ride!

Yeah, the weather hasn't exactly been conducive to riding, lotta black ice by my place for many nights. I can't find your number and your inbox is full. Shoot me a text about that rack. -Dan

Hi Aaron, online estimates are UPS $57.56 and USPS $44.71. I'm about as far from you as possible in the lower 48. It seems to often happen that when I actually go in, it ends up being cheaper. So, I'd be happy to figure on $40 for a $175 total. If it does run a few over, I'll eat the difference. What is your bike year and model? -Dan

Well y'know it could always be worse. I could live in New Jersey ;-)

The bike is an 82 Maxim 550. The length between the shock bolt and tail light mounts are 12.5in, so if that's the difference between the two mounting holes it should work. If that's the case, shoot me a PM with your Paypal.

The mounting points on the rack are 10" apart. But it isn't meant to use the shock mounts. If you pop your seat off, you should see mounting points (nuts welded on the frame, basically) just aft of the shock mounts. Those are the forward rack mounts. The rear rack mounts are the same bolts that hold the rearward tab of the aluminum side rails that become the grab handle behind the seat. This rack fit those points perfectly on my 82 650 Maxim at 10". With a very simple adapter, which I would send you, it fit fine on my 83 750 at about 11.25".

    My PayPal is remsend@yahoo.com

My entire family is from New Jersey. I am thankful every morning that they moved to Maine a year before I was born and spared that fate.

    Paypal $$ sent.

I checked on my bike and my dads 550. Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I don't see the forward rack mounts you mentioned (there's also a mention of them on another thread). Will check again, but either way I'll make it fit.

They may not be there at all on the 550. I only know the 650 and 750. I would figure you could adapt something off the shock mount or use a u-bolt around the frame just behind the shock mount to mimic the mount that the 650's and 750's have. I got the PayPal payment, thank you. I should be able to slip out of work and get it mailed tomorrow, Wednesday at the latest.

Ahh, the U-Bolt is a good idea and adapting off the shock mount as a fallback plan. Thanks man, appreciate the idea and the rack!

Received the package a couple days ago. The rack is even nicer than the pictures!

I'm going to have to fab a couple more dogbones for it to fit my bike but otherwise it's great. I'll throw up some pictures up once it's all done. Thanks man.
