Hello XJ Bikes.... Its been a while... 4 odd years since I sold my last XJ900 and moved to another country....

I hope you are all well

So today I found me a new one... A member from here too. Paid $1250AUD for this 23k km bike thats in average condition...

    Carbs leak
    Mufflers leak
Electrics need work... Fusebox upgrade and indicator gremlin
A little hard to start from cold... Runs rough on cold idle
Tank has dent and paint is tired

Other than that... Its complete and runs

Soooo a poll to help me decide what I could do with this beast :)

Get it cleaned up, running and stopping and legal to start with, if the engine's not reliable it wont be any good as a proper chopper :) raked that is. Mmmm shiny shockers at least.

Then you can sell the parts you don't need to help finance the mods ... eg.
is this you in the future or the past

Yea once its legal, I'm not likely to want to strip it down... But legal would be a good start

Think I might take Bushy's advice and get it running right first... Which in itself is no small task given both mufflers and collector box have holes, forks need rebuilt, as to carbs.

Oh and then there's the leaking rear seal

I think it's probably best to just dismantle it then. I am fortunate to have an official U.N. sanctioned motorcycle disposal facility near me, and can take care of the work at no charge to you. I will even cover the cost of shipping. ;)

As I understand it, getting rid of three fairing is not easy on the xj900. Keeping it stock or "stockish" will be the simplest route. Do you want a bike to ride or a long time project?

" Might take Bushy's advice "... at least that's nearly a good thing, I'd better chalk that up on the shed wall. :)

Nice find there......granted, the color is different--but if you want to see what one of these looks like when it's back in condition, look at my 900rk in the showcase. You'll want to bob/chop/alter a generic Xj, not one of the rarer ones. Nice that you have the bigger fairing, too.

Yep, you were around when a lot of the standard-reading forums came out. But you're right---it's would be a good refresher course for you, too-----

They did do a naked version but I like the smaller fairing better.... The longer one breaks the end mounts.

I'd like to try my hand at full rebuild but that would be easier to do if I had another bike to ride.

I think you are FEATURED in some of those..........!

My vote is to ground up rebuild it to original. These bikes will be worth a small fortune down the road. Think of it as part of your investment/retirement fund.

Oh man... Over dosing on projects... Need to stop collecting and start fixing!!

Not only do I have a trailer filling my garage (close to complete), now have an R6 (also close to being done), then there's the dirt bike, and this weekend just gone I bought a V8 Detroit diesel GQ patrol.... Poor XJ doesn't stand a chance :p

Does this amount still fall under therapeutic or is it already a serious condition?
