Hello everyone. I just ordered front forks for my 82 xj750j maxim from eBay. They are in great condition but the seller e-mailed me and said he discovered one does have a slight oil leak. I told him to send them anyway because I figured I should just put new seals in anyway. Well, I was just reading my Haynes manual and it states that these forks are much more complicated and a Yamaha shop is highly recommended to do the job. (Special tools required, etc) Is this really the case? The forks coming are just the forks only so all I need to do is rebuild them and install. Any advice?

njot a 750 but it will give you a good idea of what to do.
there are a few special tools but there are also work around improvised tools that work just as well

haynes shows this improvised tool. you can also use a spark plug socket or just a bolt with 2 nuts and a lock washer

They are less complicated than a modern fully-adjustable fork, and even less complicated than Seca 750 forks.

I have the Seca 750 forks on there now. The previous owner had changed them put today I discovered that he had eliminated the air adjusting set up. It's all gone! Just the little holes in the top of the tubes are visible. Lol. I want to go back to stock and get rid of all the anti-dive stuff anyway

Are the air collars missing? The Maxim has air-adjustable forks and uses similar air collars.

Yeah everything is missing. I ordered all the correct parts for the air when I ordered the forks so it will all be stock maxim when I'm all done
