My drive sprocket has play is this normal?

    That depends. What sort of play? Radial play between the sprocket and the output shaft splines? Radial play in the output shaft? Linear play in the output shaft?

    replace the plate that holds it on

    it has axle play where it slides on and off the shaft like half a mm or .025"

    look at the holder you will see it is flatened out where it rotates into the splines.

    if it is the spline shaft that is worn , not much you can do but replace the shaft big job.
