Thanks very much to beekman working with me, I have some hard bags coming my way from the great white north. they need some resto so I will be painting them to match my trunk/tank. maple candy red I believe the color is called. my trunk has some rash on the other side and is very sun faded on the top. I thought about painting the tan at the same time. however aside from 1 3in scratch is in lovely shape and I think I am better keeping that original.

However I am thinking of painting my rooster the matching red as the rest. I am pretty set on doing it but I am open to opinions on if I should.

My real question is, this rooster is in very good shape and has all its decals still. am I devaluing a "rare" part by stripping it down and repainting it? is this sacrilege? I really have no frame of reference for these things. but if its a rare valuable awesome part, maybe I leave it black or get a diff fairing? that's what I am wondering about.

when looking at these pics keep in mind there will bags that will be red and that will mean more weight to the red in the back, so I think the black rooster will stick out more, and should be red to pull the look of the bike together????

That is a delema, I do think the roosters are quite rare, at least they certainly are here where I'm from. And that one is in very nice shape, all decals etc.
I am usually a purist too and keep things stock, but it certainly would look better in a matching color.
Have you thought of trading it for something less rare? Maybe a quicksilver or a IV series Windjammer. Then if you painted that it might seem more respectful,?
Or ask some members at the Vetter Owners Group forum page.

The way I look at it, its a piece of fiberglass paint it to match the rest of the bike. After all it is not original to the bike and most add-ons were ment to be painted.

If it is that rare and/or valuable remove it from the bike, display it on the wall of your garage (I have a couple of gas tanks I have done this too :) ) and get something else to put on it. Just having it on you bike it's going to get damaged (rocks, sun damage, etc.) so you might as well make it the look like it came with the bike. ;)

There are likely some people that don't like that I painted my Seca a new color, but I could always go back to stock paint and decals , and I could and might someday, I'm not sure about the Rooster , I don't think it is painted now

Go for broke and paint it. just make sure the paint scheme works. If you do paint it red, it might be a tad too much. Might want to test it out in Photoshop before you commit.

What ever floats ya boat and just do you.

I appreciate the replies. My main point is I don't know if a rooster is a super special part someone would die to have. Most likely not. I would hate to "destroy" something, someone has been looking for a long time. That's all. I just like having a windshield and a radio. And I think it would look more tied together if matching

I wouldn't be concerned about that. If someone wants it they wont care what color it is. Plus they can always restore it.

People pay a lot less for something when it requires extra work to set right.

Didja buy it as an investment, or it it to look good on your bike? Answer that, and you're on your way to a decision.
