How fast should an XJ700 be going?

In another thread, someone said that at 4k rpm his XJ700 is going 65mph. Now, I also have an XJ700, but at 4k rpm my bike is only 50mph in 5th gear.

My bike is running pretty rich but aside from that it seems to be running great. So my question is, just how fast should this bike be going at 4k rpm? Or any other rpm that I can go out and use for comparison.

    Thanks.

    I am doing 60 at 4.5k in 5th gear in my '83 XJ750MK.

4k seems low, 6 speed bike?

No, it's a 5 speed. So it woud seem that I'm definitely not getting the most out of my bike. Looks like its time to lean 'er out and see if that makes a difference.

Fuel mixture doesn't affect gear ratios.

Only things that effect mph/rpm ratios are gears and tires.

My XJ runs at `5500-6500 at 70-80 mph on the freeway. Everyday. Runs great....

Yeah, I know MiCarl, that occurred to me as I was taking my son to soccer. So that means that either my tachometer or speedometer is probably off. Is there an easy way to check the tachometer for accuracy?

My xj700 runs 52 mph at 4000 rpm. So you are not that far off. Different manufacturers of bike tires are actually different heights. So you are probably dead on. Just look at the different rear tires that manfacturer has and pic one that is taller than the one you already have. Make sure it is the size for the bike though.
