fuel petcock question

    Gday fellow xjers, just wanted to know which position is which on my xj. I have pri at 3pm, res at 9am and on at 12pm. Any help greatly appreciated

    That is correct. Prime is for filling dry float bowls after sitting. On is where the petcock should normally be kept. Reserve is...well it's reserve. The petcock is vacuum operated.

    Correct. When engine vacuum is lost (upon shutdown) the vacuum valve on the petcock closes and shuts off fuel flow.

    Random question. Instead of rebuilding or finding a new vacuum petcock I just got a gravity fed off ebay for 5 bucks and plugged up the vacuum line that led to the old. Is there any issue with doing this to these bikes?

    No but add a in line filter if there isn't one.

    I went the rebuild route. Easy job-did it sitting at the workbench one Friday night after Chacal set me up with the rebuild kit.

    The only issue with fitting a non-vacuum petcock is remembering to turn it on.
