Hey i have an 82' 750Maxim.. it Had electrical tach.. cable speedo.. I am trying to find out what kind of aftermarket speedometers i could use. I dont know much about them but i guess there are different gear ratio's.. my brother took one off his harley to see if it woud work "which he said sometimes seemed off on his" and it was over 20MPH off on mine at least..

If anyone could help me with this.. i'm not looking for anything too fancy.. and i dont want to try to hunt a stock unit off ebay since they want an arm an leg.. and they are so god awful ugly..

Thanks in advance for any help

you could also try Mikes SX. I know they have a variety of gages on there and they are for Yamaha's already so they may have the correct gearing your looking for.

$600's pretty steep and out of my range, but it's really cool lookin! :)

All electronic speedometers are programmable to match any sender ratio. If you stick with a mechanical one, you will need a gear adapter or one thats designed to work with the stock ratio.

    copied form the web site:

2700 SERIES ARE 119.00 TO 129.00 DEPENDING UPON CONFIGURATION

Even says the RPM sensor is included, which helps the conversion from mechanical tach to elctronic
$130 seems pretty reasonable for all it does.

Maybe I'm reading the price wrong?

EDIT: Since the electrodsport.com site isnt clear and easy to read - small fuzzy screen prints... I went looking for the model that would be right for my 550: the ACE-2802.
    on this site:
    http://www.acewell-meter.com/c0_1.php?bid=11&pid=3
A bit clearer for sure. Also from the acewell download page, I got the english PDF for even more information. I did have to hit up Adobe for more plugins, but now the PDF is good.
I wish I could find other dealers

Those are the correct prices plus shipping. They told me they only have electronic speedos, which I found was pretty easy to set up if you need help just pm me.

For what it's worth, Autometer has a variety of speedometers.

Thanks all.. think i'm going to go with one of the electrosport models.. i have no problem going with a digital/electric speedo.. pefer it actually.. that way i dont have to eff around with gear ratio's and such.. and they look pretty nice too :D

Now i just have to order me a haynes manual to figure out what fricken wires i will have to use to hook the tach portion of it up :( haha work in progress.

Thanks for all the suggestions and i'll have to post some pics of it soon as i've been working on it quite a bit :D

yeah, so the acewell and the electrosport are exactly the same thing. The part numbers are the same. Either way, I think I am going to get one of those, but I'm not sure what to use to block off the mechanical port in the engine.

Oh, and post back how you wired up everything.
