Hey guys I have a 400 Maxim tank. The outside is in great condition, and I'm currently getting the rust out of the inside as well as sealing it.

I'm looking for a 550 Seca tank in hopes that it'll fit my top tube. If anyone knows of another Seca tank that will fit with minor adjustments (mostly concerned about the petcock) I'm open to that too. Not having very much luck finding one on CL/Ebay.

    Thanks!

I thought I had searched through basically everything. Didn't have a lot of luck with info on the 400, but I'll definitely take another look. Good to know its out there. I'll do some more searching.

That would be most appreciated. I'm having trouble finding 400 specific info, but I'm trying to "back into it" so to speak. Its getting closer and closer to an algebra equation..

Didn't get in til late--- will hope to have more time tomorrow afternoon. The 400's were the screwy ones---- so many.

    Xs 400 special - SOHC
    Xs400 Seca - DOHC
    Xs400 maxim - 2 cyl
    XJ400 maxim - 4 cyl

Ok..... I did not take specific measurements----to cold and snow in the air today, so I did quick comparison, and will be more detailed some time in the future if needed---

    So to the point:

The 400rj (400 Seca) tank will not fit on the 550 Seca frame. The front mounts are close enough in width that I think they could fit, but th underside of the 400rj tank has a very narrow section that does not allow the tank to drop down over the spine. The 400rj tank is jus a little bit longer, too, so I don't think that it would fit to the rear mount anyway. Since the tank can't fit down over the spine, there's no way to compare seat fitment.

I did not try putting the 550 Seca tank on the 400 Seca though......

So its looking like I'll be doing some tank mods regardless of what I use. I really do appreciate all of your help! And snow? Jeez I can't imagine dealing with snow in May.. I have sunburn right now.

Here's a thought… I have an extra 400 RJ tank That is good on top. The bottom corners ( the "water traps") Are Rusted through. But if you're going to do tank modifications, But consider buying this Tank, Cutting the Tonnele out of your tank welding this top on to that. You would have to redo the corners but you would have to anyway doing you're cutting and welding. You would end up with a tag that is a 400 RJ outside and a 400 regular Tunnel. Slight modifications are probably needed right at the very tail of the tank but that would be under the seat front.
