    Hello,

I just purchase a gas cap for my gas tank from Fleabay and it did not come with the screw to attach it to the gas tank. Btw the gas tank is a Seca 750.

    Thank you

Use a medium-strength threadlock or never-seize on the threads so you can get it back out later. Also be careful to not drop it into the tank.

I will be careful not to drop the screw in the tank and will use a medium thread-lock like lock-tight

Yes, that's a regular M6. Is it hard to get metric screws in the US, have seen quite a few threads about it?

My local Ace Hardware usually has the metric thread screws/bolts I need. They even had appropriate metric hex head, stainless steel bolts to replace the Philips screws on my YICS covers.

not hard to get it is that we lable sae differently

    1/4-20-1-1/2 = 1/4 inch diameter 20 threads per inch 1=1/2 inch long.

metric M6-1 x16 woild be 6 mm dia 1 thread per MM 16 mm long

metric states threads per mm sae stated threads per inch
my best source for quality and price is home depot you can order what is not in stock from your computer and have it sent to store or your house.

our automobiles have metric bolts in them.

Actually metric is measured from the top of one thread to the next.
    A 1 pitch is 1 mm , a .8 pitch is .8 mm

I was "lucky" enough to start turning wrenches in the era when all U.S. built vehicles had a mix of Metric and SAE fasteners. I swear that requirement was lobbied for by tool manufacturers.

11 mm wrench fits a 7/16 hex pretty good. 14 mm sort of fits a 1/2 inch hex.
my tool box is a mess so all the metric stuff is painted green

My teachers told me in grade school that when I grew up that we would be using the metric system . . . . 52 revolutions around the sun and I guess I'm not grown up yet.

I digress, the OP presented another classic example as why saving a couple $$ on eBay just doesn't pay in the end.
XJ4Ever is the prefered source for my motorcycle parts.

For all my metric screw I go to Lowe's home improvement store. They have an array of screws in metric.
