I picked up a second XJ750 Maxim yesterday and thought I would share some pictures. The original thought was to fix it up and sell it in order to pay for some maintenance tools I need for my bike. However, I am now planning to rebuild it and keep it. I think it will make a great bike. It is in far better shape than I expected for the $300 I paid. I will have to redo the brake systems, and probably change the tires. I might put the seat on my original XJ750 as it seems pretty comfortable. Everything in it is stock, which is a plus. I'm sure I will have some questions as I work my way through the bike. I'm told one cylinder doesn't always fire, although I haven't experienced it yet. Of course, I haven't ridden it much at all since it isn't registered or insured.

Now I just have to figure another way to pay for the Morgan carbtune and colortune. However, since my wife is the one who recommended I keep it, I'm sure I'll get the tools as well. LeftSide.jpg RightSideFront.jpg RightSideRear.jpg Tank_xj750.jpg MainConsole.jpg

    Nice score for the price!

Question for the general populous as you pics clearly show:
Why does it seem that the right hand side covers frequently are missing?
    Where do they go?
Are they hiding with the single socks that the dryer teleports to a different time and place?

I'm told they are not common, but I don't know why. Perhaps folks take them off to charge or replace their batteries and they don't make it back on. There aren't many on eBay either.

One way to make parts and tool money is start working on other people's old bikes in your spare time.

The mounting tabs are easy to snap off. Yor'e correct that the right side is harder to find because of accessing the battery.

That's a great idea, when I know what I am doing and when I actually have spare time. In the mean time, I'll be sharpening and adding to the few wrenching skills that I currently have.

Yeah, but I sure hope I don't want to keep each one that look nice. I might end up sleeping in the camper ... if I'm lucky. However, with two of these, I also might learn enough to make a buck. Time will tell.

Actually, on the 750 Maxim models, the side covers are also held on by a screw........but it's kinda of a pain to access, so a lot of people leave them out, and then the side cover takes a hike the first time you go over a good bumpity-bump on the freeway, etc...................

1982-83 XJ750 Maxim and Midnight Maxim models:

The left side cover has a front upper, front lower, and a rear position. Use one each of the following components to mount this cover:
HCP2264 screw in the front upper position.
HCP315 lockwasher in the front upper position.
HCP1956 collar in the front upper position.
HCP1950 grommet in the front upper position.
HCP1952 grommet in the front lower position.
HCP1951 grommet in the rear position.

The right side cover has a front upper, a lower, and a rear position. Use one each of the following components to mount this cover:
HCP10068 screw in the lower position.
HCP10069 flat washer in the lower position.
HCP1902 lock washer in the lower position.
HCP3156 collar in the lower position.
HCP1950 grommet in the lower position.
HCP1953 grommet in the front upper position.
HCP1951 grommet in the rear position.
