So it was my day off, and I was in my garage working on the Max. Mind you, I haven't ridden it yet, because I just recently got my license / plates / title, and I've had it apart for an overhaul almost since I got it (Dang real life always getting in the way of the projects...)

Anyway, my dad came over to visit. On his Harley. Gorgeous bike, by the way. '06 Fat Boy, candy-apple red... if I was going to buy a Harley, it would be that one.

So of course he took pity on my bikeless condition, now that I have my license, and said "why don't you go out for a spin?"

I have to say, I can see now why people like Harleys. Lots of low-end power (makes it easy to get rolling - compared to those dinky bikes at the BRC... well, let's just say there's no comparison), nice ride, great looks...

'Course, I can see why people don't ride Harleys too. Lots of vibration, clunky shifting, and they're expensive to maintain properly (he's had it for less than a year, and it's been in for four scheduled maintenances - at around $300 each).

But overall, I gotta say, for that hour or so, I couldn't have paid attention to any of that stuff, even if I'd wanted to. The ride was drowning everything else out...

I've been looking at a FXSTC Softtail myself. Nice looking bike. I'll keep the XJ as well to run back and forth to work. The wife even gave me the go ahead on a new bike next spring witch shocked the heck out of me. I wonder if she's been possessed by another being? ;)

A good solution to the problem would be to get something like Yamaha Warrior 1700. Lots of torque, respectable horsepower and great looks. If things go well with our refinancing of the house, one will be sitting in the driveway next to the Seca, in Black please, with lotsa chrome. Other than the V rod, no harley can touch it. Heck, the AMA Prostar Hot Rod Cruiser class had to bend the rules to get the Harley (or S&S as it is) competative. cruzerjd

I rode a warrior last year and it will walk all over a HD! amaxing low end torque that made the shift from 1st to 2nd almost snap my neck. Handlebars were too far forward and wide so my back hurt after the first ride. Guy who finally bought the bike changed the bars and the exhaust which had semi-truck stack for a stock muffler. Really nice bike now!

Yeah that muffler is HUGE! That seems to be the first thing that goes, but I will keep mine as stock as possible. There are a lot of vendors though, big items seem to be exhaust, intake and engine goodies, as well as comversion kits to run wider rear tires and such. What gets me is the red line, 4200 and its all over, my Seca is just clearing its throat at 4200, so it will be a big change. I have found 4 for sale on Craigslist in the 500 mile radius or so. One in Eugene, stock, with shield and bags for $7995. I think i will wait till winter before moving on one though, take advantage of the poor weather, then try to sell my Seca in the spring when it gets nice. cruzerjd

Anyone look at the Yamaha Raider S for 2008. I'm seriously looking at buying that bike, looks nicer than the HD FXSTC IMHO.
