Spotted some of these on each side of the engine. What's the deal? Trying to reason through it, I assume they inhibit air flow and therefore might have been used to deal with cold spots for more even heat distribution on the engine? Is that even a concern? Should I remove them?

I kept mine, because my engine sings (badly) without them. If your ears are sensitive to high-pitched ringing, you'll want to keep them too.

Yep - they're little rubber dampers that dull the ring of the cooling fins. They quiet down the engine a lot. Try strumming the fins with/without - the difference is quite audible.

I should probably wear them at concerts (earplugs, not fin spacers). My ears are always ringing for hours afterwards. That's the sign of permanent damage and the onset of tinnitus. Lemmy said earplugs were for sissies, and they blocked out part of the music.

Lemmy is not someone I'd listen to. Lemmy is probably going to be deaf before everyone who DOES use earplugs.

As a musician, I value my hearing

Dude. Lemmy pased away not long ago (still had good(ish) hearing though). In regards to health he was an outlier (Jack and Coke was his everyday, all-day beverage). Not an example to be followed.

Lemmy also had a lot less sound directed at him than the fans did, I'm sure.

Also roadie to Jimmy Hendrix, and Singer/Bass/Amphetamine smuggler for Hawkwind before that.
Damned fine musician and songwriter, and based on reports a very nice person despite appearances.

    Also a motorcyclist.

Hey, now. I like Waylon and Willie and the boys as much as the next guy, but sometimes you just need something a little stronger when that wild hair starts acting up again.

The thing about good music.....it's all in the story, not the genre.
