Hey guys, nearly there to finishing up my rebuild on an 82 Seca 650, however it turned into much more of an overhaul than I anticipated when the seca frame was pretty cut up from the previous owners trying to make a bobber. I ended up getting a mxim frame in near mint condition for a really good price that I couldn't pass up, now I'm into the issue of the seca seat I had gotten doesnt quite work, as the seca seat is hinged, the maxim is a "Bolt-to-frame" style if I'm correct. Will the flat style seca seat work on the maxim frame if I can get the frame hardware for mounting it? or is the rear frame too different between the 2 bikes?

Frames are different, I haven't done a seat-swap comparo, but I have done tank-swap comparo which is here in another forum......

That all said, if I get the time in the next few days, I'll try to do that for you.

In the meantime, a quick solution would be to pull the covers and foam, and the do a Seatpan swap.....

The 650 rj tank will fit the maxim frame, but you should use the 650rj triple clamps to allow clearance at the front if the tank.... Otherwise you'll run the fork tubes up against the tank on tight turns

The maxim seatpan and Seca seatpan each have diferent latching mechanisims. At the very least they would have to be swapped.

Can's seem to edit posts at this time, so I'll add that the seatpans are also different. I remembered that I tried swapping seca and maxim seats over the summer and it was a no-go, even with the fuel tanks removed.

That's why I suggested the Seatpan swap . Maybe I should more correctly call it a " foam-and-cover" swap, since that's ultimately what really gets switched. I was just thinking it from the view of "put both seats next to each other then swap the pans" and was picturing them upside down on the floor.

Basic result would be the 650 Seca seat on the 650 maxim pan, with whatever foam mods might be needed.

    Hey,

Just wanted to sign up to this thread. If you end up doing this let me know how it goes. I'm in the process of looking at modifying an XJ650 seat pan to make it more sleek - maybe even with a hump.

I got the seat and tank of Seca 750. Tank fits perfect, good clearance and its much larger fuel capacity then my maxim 650 fuel tank. The seats are way too different. I have the two seats side by side and don't see how can one swap the pan. Pan of 650 maxim is narrow and on the front has locking hatch that locks under the fuel tank. Seca seat has plastic reinforcement that goes on the curve up. Maxim seat does not have that so not sure if the pans can be switched at all. Might get a seat from aliexpress that would require less modification. Anyone actually swapped the pans on seca and maxim? what was your solutions?
