I have never really thought to ask but do most people tend to leave their bike in 1st gear or leave it in neutral when they park?I leave mine in 1st
usually.I assume this doesn't harm the bike since I do it with my truck.Except maybe for some reason I leave it in gear and forget to pull the clutch when starting.

I leave mine in neutral. I alway pull in the clutch to start it even if it is in neutral but after leaving it in gear and letting go of the clutch without thinking one time, I make sure to leave it in neutral.

    1st. Always.

The reason being I've only owned one automatic car, and every other car I've owned was a stick that didn't have a functioning parking brake. So it's totally habit to just know the vehicle is in first all the time for me.

Leaving in 1st reduces the chance it will roll forward and off the sidestand.

I almost always leave my bikes in neutral The exception to this is if the thing is pointed downhill. I years ago most bikes had no cutouts and would start in gear. Used to be funny to watch when a guy would forget and hit the starter while standing beside the bike. Maybe thats why I am always mounted before I start the engine, now I think about it.

I have a bad habit of leaving mine in second or third. i dont notice it until I go to take off. I have a bad habit of hitting the kill switch and swinging down the side stand before the bike comes to a stop. This means it is in whatever gear I was in when I killed it to stop. DUH.

on my XJ its 1st if on an incline, on my harley its a bit different, the harley has a nice design on the sidestand where it locks into place and it cant roll forward, its a good idea!! but to counter that good idea the harley also has no clutch safety switch and if you bump the starter in gear the rather torquey starter will jump you right forward...all the more reason to use "N".... (for that bike)
