82 maxim digital display

    Craziest thing happened today. The digital display between my two gauages had never worked, ever. And I had read where this isn't uncommon w/ these bikes. Well all of a sudden, I turned the bike on, and that display is working perfectly. I don't know why, I didn't mess w/ any wires, or anything. Just started working on its own. Go figure lol

    Loose plugs can get jostled. There might also be a bad solder joint, or the polarizing film may have lifted and then dropped back into place. I would not say that systems monitor failure is common.

    Having spent most of my career as an electronic technician, I bet the problem is what we call a "Cold Solder Joint". They appear to be securely connected, but the solder will appear dull around the joint. The connection can come and go with fluctuations in temperature or vibration.
